New Accident Reporting Procedure and Form

SCOUTS New Zealand takes its responsibility to provide safe activities seriously, and as part of its risk management programme has now established a ‘National Accident Register’. Where an accident occurs and the person injured requires hospitalisation or worse, Groups are now required to submit an ‘Accident Report Form’ to the National Office as soon as possible. For minor accidents, Groups are required to keep a record for their own use, and may be called on to report that information to the National Office when required. The type of accident and when to report is included on the form for your ease of use.

This information is then stored in the ‘National Accident Register’ kept at the National Office and also entered into a ‘National Accident Database’ maintained by the Mountain Safety Council. Other outdoor organisations (including schools under Education Outside The Classroom) also contribute to the ‘National Accident Database’, and we receive annual reports in return. The data collected and reports provided are then used to review our Risk Management processes to ensure we take all reasonable and practical steps necessary to protect our youth and adult members.

Having quality and relevant information is essential to our continued Risk Management development. In the United Kingdom for example, almost 25% of all accidents reported came from mountain biking and people being thrown over their handlebars. Scouts UK now have provided more information on being safe on bikes as a result, and the number of accidents appears to be going down.

Chocolate Fundraiser Launched

The instructions, order forms, distribution points and posters are now available.

We understand that it takes motivation for a fundraising promotion to succeed. That's why we have secured some of the best deals and prizes to help keep your Keas, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers focused and excited!
So every youth that sells two carry packs of any product they will receive either an ‘Adventure Plus’ branded rugby or netball of their choice. If they sell three carry packs or more they go into the draw for one of the Mountain Bikes.
We have also negotiated a full sales or return on all shippers that are unopened so have tried to eliminate as much risk as possible for every Group. Even the freight is free of charge to the Groups and should you need to return a shipper that is also freight free. All we ask is that the Groups sell as many as they can and pay promptly after the three week period. You must be fully paid up before you will receive any prizes or be eligible to go into the draw for the mountain bikes.

New Posters Available

New ‘Adventure Plus’ promotional posters are now available for Groups.

Groups are encouraged to contact their Regional Service Centres to obtain their allocation and display the 10 variations in their halls, at school fairs and community events. The posters feature our members out and enjoying our national programmes and activities, and will be in production until the middle of the year. The intention is that as time progresses, new pictures will be selected from submissions from the ‘grass roots’.

If you would like to submit a photo for use on the national website or in these posters then please email admin@scouts.org.nz today with “poster image” in the subject line. Make sure to include the highest resolution image possible, and written approval from the people in the photo for its use.
